An individual who was in court Thursday for a child custody hearing fled the courthouse after learning he had an active misdemeanor bench warrant. The subject, identified as Brandon Anthony Morgan, was apprehended a short distance away without incident, according to a release from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office.

Shortly after 1 p.m. on Thursday, units from multiple agencies converged on the courthouse after Morgan fled. Morgan ran east from the courthouse and went into the building at the southwest corner of Pearl Avenue and Ward Street. Deputies arrested Morgan without incident and no one was injured.

Morgan was transported to the Coffee County Jail and booked on the bench warrant as well as obstruction.

According to the sheriff’s office, when Morgan fled the courthouse,  he was not an inmate.
