In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, two juveniles and an 18-year-old allegedly embarked on a crime spree in Alma that included two burglaries, an armed robbery at the Huddle House, and the robbery of a citizen near an ATM.
The Alma Police Department issued the following statement on its Facebook page:
“During the early hours of September 27, 2024, our great little community suffered devastating damage caused by Hurricane Helene. Not 24 hours later, while our hometown was trying to piece back together our lives and landscape, a crime spree began to take place in the City of Alma. The Vape Shop on S Dixon St was burglarized sometime during the night of September 27th into September 28th where several items were reported taken from within the business. On October 2nd, Officers patrolling the area discovered the Vape Shop on S Dixon St had been burglarized for a second time.
“During the early morning hours on October 6th, an armed robbery occurred at the Huddle House on S Pierce St where money and personal items were taken from victims. The Hurricane Crime Spree ended with another armed robbery of a citizen near the FNB ATM on S Pierce St on August 7th.
“All incidents have been turned over to the Alma-Bacon County Crime Suppression Unit for investigation. As a result of the ongoing investigations there have been 3 arrests made, two of which are juveniles:
– Denarius White (18 Years of Age)
Party To a Crime of Armed robbery
– Juvenile 1 (16 Years of Age)
Loitering / Prowling
Possession of Marijuana
Prohibited Acts Relating to Tobacco Products
2 Counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime
2 Counts of Possession of a Pistol by a Person Under the Age Of 18
3 Counts of Armed Robbery
– Juvenile 2 (15 Years of Age)
Party to a Crime of Armed Robbery
“Both juveniles are currently incarcerated and being held in an RYDC and Mr. White is currently incarcerated in Bacon County Jail.
