The Coffee Trojans defeated the Veterans Warhawks 41-7 at Jardine Stadium to improve to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in region play. The Trojans have made the playoffs; now it’s just a matter of figuring out which seed they will occupy. And that will be decided next week in Thomasville when Coffee takes on the defending 6-A state champion Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets.
The Trojans got touchdowns from KJ Smith (a pick-six), Tre Smith (two TDs; a 54-yard pass and a 28-yard pass, both from Bray Coe), Zean Preston (four-yard pass from Coe), and Kevin Gilliard (three-yard pass from Coe). Jonah Saylor kicked field goals of 30 and 31 yards. Jayden Hancock also intercepted his fourth pass of the season and blocked a field goal. KJ Smith scooped up the ball and returned it to the Veterans 16, which set up Saylor’s first field goal.
The game was a shutout until the final three minutes or so. The Warhawks scored on a short pass that finally put them on the board.
“We’ve got great kinds. They work hard and they bust their butts. I wouldn’t trade my kids for anyone. We will be ready for next week. We will have a great week of prep and then we’ll get after it,” said head coach Mike Coe following the game.
Kickoff at TCC is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
