Tuesday morning, deputies from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Gabe Carelock, 46, near Pridgen after he allegedly led officers on a chase in a vehicle through a field then on foot through a swamp. A K-9 tracking unit from Ware State Prison eventually caught up to Carelock and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Officers had been looking for Carelock, who had several active warrants both in Coffee County and out of county, for a while. Carelock is no stranger to the inside of the Coffee County Jail and he knew deputies were on his trail. He always managed to stay one step ahead of his pursuers.
Until Tuesday.
That morning, several deputies headed to the Pridgen area to see if they could find him. They located Carelock in a vehicle driving on Ernest Pridgen Road. Carelock saw the officers and took off across a field, eventually abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot through a swampy area.
Deputies called in a tracking dog from Ware County and, a couple of hours after they initially spotted Carelock, he was in custody. He was charged with stalking, terroristic threats, and harassing communications out of Coffee County. He was also charged with burglary from Jeff Davis County. Carelock remains in the Coffee County Jail.
