Two Douglas teens were charged with aggravated assault and other charges after they allegedly fired a shot at another person following an argument on Mitchell Street
According to an incident report from the Douglas Police Department, on December 9, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., E911 received a call of shots fired at a Mitchell Street address. According to the 911 call, someone in a black Dodge Challenger had fired a shot at a male subject. Several units responded and spotted a black Challenger nearby. Officers stopped the car, which was occupied by Messiah Jamal Denning, 18, and Donivan Turner, 17, both of Douglas. Inside the car officers found a spent shell casing as well as a loaded .38 revolver and live 9mm ammunition, according to the report.
The report states that officers spoke with the victim and his mother. The victim’s mother told officers that the Challenger had stopped in front of their home. The victim and the driver, identified as Turner, yelled at her son, who began arguing with him, according to the report. Turner allegedly pulled out a gun, the report says, and the argument turned into a “heated exchange.” The report says that the victim told Turner to put the gun away and “fight him man to man.” The report says that the vehicle began to move and Turner fired a shot at the victim then sped away.
Officers charged Turner with wearing a mask, hood, or device which conceals the identity of the wearer; aggravated assault; possession of a handgun by someone under the age of 18 (second offense); and reckless conduct. Denning was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime; and reckless conduct. Both were transported to the Coffee County Jail.
The victim was uninjured.
