South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team has finished the first two months of the regular season 11-2 with the start of the conference schedule just around the corner.

The next three games included wins over Eastern Florida State (69-65), Brunswick Community College (87-53), and Indian River State (86-74). Eastern Florida snapped the Hawks’ three-game winning streak Dec. 14 in Waycross (74-62). SGSC rebounded Dec. 17 for a 98-79 win over Florida Gateway College.

As a team, the Hawks have averaged 83 points per game on 48 percent shooting. SGSC has made 32 percent of its three-pointers and shot 70 percent from the free throw line. Defensively, the Hawks have held their opponents to an average of 63 points per game.

The Hawks have been led in scoring by Justin McCarter (17 points per game), Devon Rainey (15.5 points), Amren Hoard (10.9 points), Ashton Pennamon (10.8 points), and Grant Raven (8.4 points). Together, these five players have contributed 75 percent of SGSC’s scoring per game so far this season.

SGSC will play one more non-conference game Saturday, Jan. 4 at 4 p.m. in Waycross against North Florida Prep. The Hawks begin conference play on the road Jan. 8 against East Georgia State. The first conference game in Waycross will be Saturday, Jan. 11 at 4 p.m. against Central Georgia Tech.
