On December 10, 2024, Jeff Davis County authorities responded to the area of W.H. Smith Road near the Coffee County line in reference to a Department of Natural Resources agent out with a vehicle. Once at the scene, a JDSO deputy spoke with DNR officer Luke Rabun who stated that he was in the area for routine patrol at Flat Tub WMA when he came across the vehicle towing a trailer without a tag or taillights.
Rabun stated that he stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver. The driver and the vehicle matched the description of a person to question in reference to several campers that had been burglarized in and around Flat Tub. The driver, identified as Jesse Music of Coffee County, was questioned by Rabun and admitted to breaking in the campers. According to the arresting officer, Music also admitted to taking a muzzle loader rifle that Rabun confiscated. The gun will be returned to its owner.
On scene there was a strong odor of marijuana that Music admitted to smoking. During the search a cigarette pack was found in the center console that had a quantity of methamphetamine in the cigarette pack. Music admitted to knowing about the meth but denied that it was his. In the driver’s door pocket was a small a small blue baggie that contained a small amount of methamphetamine residue, according to the deputy.
The officers also found a Savage Axis 6.5 Creedmoor bolt action rifle with a scope, a Remington Nylon .22, a FNA-Brescia 42-XX semi-auto rifle with bayonet, a Savage Axis .308 bolt action rifle with a scope, a Taurus G2C 9mm semi-auto handgun, and a H&R single barrel break action 12 gauge shotgun. All firearms in Music’s possession were loaded with a round in the chamber. The Taurus handgun was on his person in his waistband.
Music was charged with theft by taking (three misdemeanor counts), felony theft by taking, burglary 1st degree, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana (less than one ounce), possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a drug-related item, criminal trespass (three counts), expired tag, and knowingly driving a vehicle with no registration. He was transported to the Jeff Davis County Jail. Music has since bonded out of jail.
