Around noon on December 18, 2024, a Nicholls man was arrested and transported to the Coffee County Jail after he allegedly threatened to harm himself and burn down a house.

A report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office states that an officer arrived at an address on Highway 32 East in reference to a threat. The suspect, Dickie Delano McLendon, 38, had been making threats to harm himself and burn down the house, the report says. A witness at the scene and the victim reported that McLendon had just returned from a store; he came back with a roll of duct tape and a bottle of liquor. The individuals stated that they feared for their lives, the report says.

Two officers attempted to arrest McLendon when, the report says, he began fighting them. They were able to take him into custody and in a patrol vehicle. Once in the vehicle, the report says that McLendon began beating his head on the inside of the car. At the jail, the report adds that staff had to restrain him “from hurting others and himself.”

McLendon was charged with terroristic threats and acts as well as willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer. He is still listed as an inmate on the Coffee County Jail roster.
