Coffee Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Lora C. Denton, MD, MACP, as the Director of its new Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Denton, a Professor of Medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine – Savannah Campus, brings over 16 years of experience in medical education and leadership, making her the ideal choice to lead CRMC’s developing residency program.

Dr. Denton began teaching residents in her private practice in 1998 and has been an integral part of Mercer University School of Medicine as a full-time faculty member since 2007. She began as an Assistant Professor, advanced to Associate Professor, and in 2018 was promoted to Professor of Medicine. Her longstanding career at Mercer and her leadership roles within the Internal Medicine Department have uniquely positioned her to guide the next generation of physicians through CRMC’s Internal Medicine residency program.

As a licensed physician in the State of Georgia, Dr. Denton is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Obesity Medicine. She also holds a Medical Review Officer Certification in Employee Health, further showcasing her diverse expertise in the medical field.

Throughout her career, Dr. Denton has held numerous administrative and educational appointments that reflect her dedication to advancing medical education. Since 2011, she has served as the Director of Ambulatory Education in the Internal Medicine Residency Department at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.

Dr. Denton’s expertise extends beyond administration. She has received numerous teaching awards over the years, including being named the Internal Medicine Teaching Attending of the Year five times by the Department of Internal Medicine at Memorial Health University. Her teaching style and dedication to mentoring medical students and residents have earned her the respect of her colleagues and students alike. In 2024, Dr. Denton was honored with the National Election to Mastership in the American College of Physicians.

“In her new role at Coffee Regional Medical Center, Dr. Denton will be instrumental in the development and growth of our Internal Medicine Residency Program,” shared Vicki Lewis, President and CEO of Coffee Regional Medical Center. “Her significant teaching experience and her commitment to continuously improving patient care will ensure that future residents at CRMC receive exceptional training, preparing them for successful careers in internal medicine.”

Dr. Denton expressed her excitement about joining CRMC, saying, “The opportunity to help shape the future of medical education in rural Georgia is a privilege, and I look forward to working with the talented team at Coffee Regional Medical Center.”

With Dr. Denton at the helm, Coffee Regional Medical Center is poised to establish a premier Internal Medicine Residency Program, enhancing the quality of healthcare in the region and providing unparalleled educational opportunities for the next generation of medical professionals.
