Deputies from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office arrested and jailed a 26-year-old on drug charges after stopping him while he was walking down the side of the road around 11 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
A report from the sheriff’s office states that a deputy noticed a man, later identified as Austin Blake Lee Musgrove, 26, of Douglas, walking down the side of Bethel Road. There had been several thefts and drug activity in the area, the report states, so the officer stopped Musgrove. He stated he was going to a friend’s house, the report says, but he couldn’t say where he had been. Musgrove said he did not have any illegal drugs on him and consented to a search, according to the report. As Musgrove was pulling items out of his pockets, he pulled out a small grey baggy that he attempted to conceal, the report says. When the officer saw him try to hide the bag, he grabbed Musgrove’s wrist. The two struggled while Musgrove continued in his attempt to conceal the bag.
By this time, other deputies had arrived and the two were able to get Musgrove in handcuffs. One of the officers saw the bag sticking out of the back of Musgrove’s jeans. It contained a crystallized substance believed to be methamphetamine. Musgrove was transported to the Coffee County Jail on possession of methamphetamine and obstruction charges. He also had an active probation warrant.
