It’s been a busy basketball season thus far for the Citizens Christian Academy Patriots and Lady Patriots. Both GIAA Class A teams face a difficult strength of schedule, matching up with several GIAA AAAA, AAA, and AA schools and a GHSA A school.
Junior Blake Bryant is averaging a double-double this season with 16 points and 12 rebounds per game. A couple of weeks ago, Bryant scored his 1000th career point. He reached the milestone at home against Terrell.
Currently, the Patriots are ranked #1 in GIAA Class A, with an overall record of 11-7, including their biggest win of the season against AAAA Tattnall Square Academy.
Coach Jared Roberts shared that the GIAA class A Region 6 has the 1st, 2nd, and 4th ranked teams in the state and he is looking to see the boys really dial it in and focus on efficiency of possessions including protecting the basketball and shot selection going into region play.
Plagued by injuries for much of the season, the Lady Patriots begin region play ranked 5th in GIAA Class A with an overall record of 9-9. With everyone healthy the last couple of weeks, the girls are on a three-game winning streak, including wins over AA Georgia Christian School and AAA Pinewood Christian Academy. On the girls’ side, the region includes the 3rd, 4th, and 5th ranked teams in Class A. Coach Roberts is looking for the girls to continue their winning streak and focus on reducing turnovers and improving rebounding.
Arabelle Roberts is leading the way for the Lady Patriots. She too is averaging a double-double this year – 18 points and 10 rebounds per game. Roberts has also made 28 three-pointers in 115 attempts. Abrah Harris is leading the Lady Patriots with a 30.6 three-point percentage (15 of 49). She is also second on the team in rebounds with 123.
Region play begins on Friday, when CCA hosts Robert Toombs Christian Academy beginning at 6 pm.
