An 18-year-old and a 20-year-old are in jail on aggravated assault charges after one of them allegedly fired multiple shots into a vehicle and a home in Sleepy Hollow Mobile Home Park on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
According to an incident report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, Cupris Morgan, 18, and Larry Daniel, 20, were in a silver Cadillac when one of them allegedly fired multiple shots into a vehicle which was pulling into a home at the mobile home park. According to the report, bullets also struck the home next door.
The report states that the owner of the vehicle that was shot identified Morgan as the shooter. DouglasNow has also received information from other officers that state Daniel was the shooter.
The victim stated that she passed the Cadillac as she was pulling up to her home. The victim also stated that her son and Morgan had some kind of ongoing problem. There were four people in the vehicle, two of whom were pre-schoolers; none sustained any injuries. After the shooting, the victim stated that Morgan and Daniel left the scene.
While officers were on the initial scene, someone from next door came over and said their home had been hit in the shooting. There were three people inside that home, according to the report.
Officers put a be-on-lookout (BOLO) for the Cadillac. Douglas police officers saw the Cadillac on Pinecrest Drive and conducted a stop. Daniel jumped out of the vehicle and fled. Officers were unable to apprehend him on Saturday but they did arrest Morgan. In the car, police found the gun believed to have been used in the shooting as well as spent shell casings. Daniel avoided arrest until Monday night when deputies finally located him and took him into custody.
Morgan and Daniel were charged with aggravated assault and are being held without bond in the Coffee County Jail.
Both are former standout Coffee Trojan football players. Daniel, who graduated in 2023, was an All-State linebacker who signed to play college football with Butler Community College. Morgan just finished his senior season with the Trojans and was an All-Region defensive end. He was set to graduate this year.
This is neither’s first brush with the law. Morgan was arrested on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, while in a vehicle with two other subjects. Morgan was allegedly in possession of a felony amount of marijuana, $271 in small bills, and a handgun. He was 17 at the time and faced charges related to felony drug possession and underage handgun possession. The charges were eventually – and quickly — dropped. Since then, Morgan has allegedly been connected to three shootings in the city, including the January 18 incident. Daniel has also allegedly been connected to at least two shootings since November 3, including the January 18 incident.
