Despite both the girls and boys beating Robert Toombs Christian Academy (RTCA) at home last Thursday, both teams fell short on Tuesday in Lyons.
In a back and forth battle, the Lady Patriots lost a nail biter 34-30 to the Crusaders. Plagued by turnovers but tied at the half, the Lady Patriots didn’t quite have enough offensively to fend off RTCA. Arabelle Roberts led the Lady Patriots with 22 pts and 11 rebounds.
Much like the girls’ game, the boys’ game could have gone either way in the final minutes. Despite balanced scoring with three Patriots in double digits (Thomas Gentry, 17 pts; Grey McLean, 14 pts; Blake Bryant, 13 pts) the Patriots fell 59-56 to RTCA.
On Friday, CCA traveled to Savannah to face region foe Memorial Day School (MDS).
The girls previously defeated the Matadors in OT at home. In a fast paced game from the start, the Lady Patriots battled and came out on top 52-49 when the buzzer sounded to end the 4th quarter. Sophomore Arabelle Roberts scored her 1,000th career point early in the game and ended with 30 points and 16 rebounds. Abrah Harris hit key free throws at the end of the game and finished with 14 points. Tenacious freshman Bristol Barrs grabbed 11 rebounds while senior Ava Vickers grabbed the final key rebound to ice the game for the Lady Patriots.
The Patriots had an easier time with MDS winning handedly 65-38 in a game that saw all Patriots getting some experience on the court. Blake Bryant led the Patriots in scoring with 22 points while Thomas Gentry snagged 12 points. Grey McLean had an all around solid game with 5 assists, 4 steals, 9 rebounds, and 9 points.
The win for the Lady Patriots solidifies their 1st place ranking going into the region tournament next week. The Patriots host First Preparatory Christian Academy on Monday in their final region game to set the boys’ brackets. Boys JV begins at 6pm with varsity boys to follow. Senior Night recognition will be between the games.
