The Coffee Trojans played a pair of games on Saturday in Cordele and came away with a win and a loss. Coffee fell to North Forsyth 7-4 in the first game. They bounced back with an 11-9 win over Crisp County in game two.

In game one, neither Coffee nor North Forsyth got on the board until the fifth inning. North Forsyth scored four in the top of the fifth. The Trojans answered with four of their own in the bottom of the frame. Ben Fussell singled to right to score Connor Stewart and Gavin McElroy. Jimmy Timothy followed with another single to right that scored Eli Wood. Michael Strickland added another single, this time scoring Fussell to tie the game at four.

An inning later, North Forsyth plated three more to pull ahead 7-4 – an advantage that would hold for the remainder of the game. Fussell and Stewart had two hits while Fussell drove in two. Three pitchers took the mound for Coffee – Strickland started while McElroy and Fussell both saw action in relief. McElroy took the loss for the Trojans.

Things started off well for Coffee in game two. The Trojans jumped out to a 10-4 lead after five. They added a run in the sixth to pull ahead 11-4. Then Crisp launched a comeback that got dangerously close to succeeding. Crisp plated five in the bottom of the sixth. However, Evan Lingenfelter, Coffee’s fourth pitcher of the game, managed to quieten the Crisp offense and preserve the win.

Brax Carson was 3-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. Eli Wood went 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Strickland also scored two runs and Timothy drove in two.

The Trojans are 2-2 on the season and travel to Brunswick to face Glynn Academy at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18. Coffee’s next home game will be Tuesday, March 4, for the region opener against Lee County.
