After struggling over the first few games of the season, the South Georgia State College Hawks have rattled off three wins in a row going back to last Friday, February 14, 2025.
On Valentine’s Day, the Hawks split two games – one with Florida State College-Jacksonville (a 2-1 loss) and Central Alabama Community College (a 2-0). Both games were played in Jacksonville. In the win over Central Alabama, starter Luke Smith and reliever Luke Boone combined for a 98-pitch no-hitter. Only one Central Alabama batter reached base during the game.
Then on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, the Hawks traveled to Mount Vernon for a double-header with the Brewton-Parker junior varsity team. SGSC won game one 7-2 and game two 12-4. Leftfielder Tanner Langley was 2-3 with two runs scored. Right fielder CJ Chalk drove in two and led off the third inning with a solo home run. Six SGSC pitchers saw action in game one.
The nightcap went much the same way. The Hawks were in control the entire contest and the outcome was never really in doubt. Designated hitter and former Coffee Trojan Payton Bryant was 3-3 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored. Catcher Gavin Brinkley also had three hits, a run scored, and an RBI. Head coach Jeff Timothy sent six pitchers to the mound in game two as well. The SGSC hurlers gave up a combined four runs on four hits (three earned). They struck out 15 and walked seven.
The Hawks are 6-9 on the season and next play Tallahassee Community College on Thursday in Tallahassee at 4 p.m. SGSC returns home for a double-header against TCC on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
