At just 14 years old, Cowen Wayne Rice is showing that dedication and generosity have no age limit. He is a passionate supporter of Coffee Regional Medical Center’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Scholarship. Over the past four years, he has raised an impressive $8,292 for the annual Heart 2 Heart Event, giving back to a cause that holds special meaning for him.

Born with an atrial septal defect (ASD), Cowen underwent a life-changing procedure nine years ago. Since then, he has been determined to give back, using his experience to fuel his passion for helping others. A student at Coffee Middle School, Cowen balances his love for football, spending time with friends, and gaming with an impressive commitment to philanthropy.

For the past four years, Cowen has set ambitious fundraising goals, raising money through t-shirt sales, race entries, paper heart sales, and sponsorships. His efforts have resulted in:

• $3,426 raised in 2025

• $3,008 in 2024

• $1,046 in 2023

• $812 in 2022

Cowen’s long-term goal? To one day serve as the Heart 2 Heart Coordinator at the CRMC Wellness Center, ensuring that more patients receive the life-changing care they need.

Cowen is a shining example of what it means to give selflessly. His dedication, passion, and hard work remind us all of the power of one person’s determination to make a lasting impact. Special thanks to Cowen’s family, friends, and all those who support his mission. The Coffee Regional Medical Center community is proud to celebrate his commitment to making a difference. Cowen is the son of Scott and Jennifer Rice of Ambrose.
