The Coffee Trojans extended their winning streak to five after sweeping a double-header and the season series against the Northside-Warner Robins Eagles Friday night at Charles Wilson Field. CHS won game one 12-0 then took game two 16-5. All told, the Trojans outscored the Eagles 39-11 over the three games.
Game one ended after six innings via run rule. Starter Michael Strickland threw 43 pitches over five innings. He struck out six, didn’t walk anyone, and gave up just two hits. Weston Brown threw a perfect sixth inning to close things out.
The Trojans scored in every inning while amassing 10 hits on the day. Carter McMillan led the way with a 3-4 day. He scored once and drove in six. With Coffee leading 9-0 in the bottom of the sixth, McMillan ended the game with a three-run home run to center on a 3-2 pitch. Ben Fussell was also 3-4 with a triple and three runs scored. Jimmy Timothy went 2-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs.
Game two also ended early; it took the Trojans just 4 ½ innings to finish off the series. McMillan collected three more hits, including a double and a triple. Fussell was 2-2 with two walks, two RBI, and three runs scored. Timothy went 1-2 with a pair of walks and three runs scored. Will Walker had a good day as well, going 2-3 with an RBI, a walk, and two runs scored.
Fussell started and followed a template similar to that of Strickland’s game one performance. He went three innings and didn’t give up a hit. He surrendered two runs (both earned), struck out three, and walked two. Brown, who threw just eight pitches in his one inning of relief in game one, threw two innings to once again close out the game.
The Trojans are now 9-8 on the season and 5-2 in region play. Things are going to get much tougher next week when Coffee faces the Houston County Bears, the region’s #1 team. The Trojans travel to Houston Tuesday then play a Friday afternoon double-header at home.
