Mr. Glynn Wesley Merritt, age 82, a native of Coffee County, passed away Monday morning at Waycross Health & Rehab following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Merritt was born April 11, 1942 in Coffee County to the late Cliff Merritt and the late Myrtice Ophelia Moon Merritt Williams.  He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War.  Following his years of military service, he became a self-employed plumber.  He was of the Church of God faith.  Along with his parents, Mr. Merritt was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria Carol Merritt; his son, Wesley Michael Merritt; 3 brothers: Rev. Earl Merritt, Fritz Merritt, and a twin brother, Merl Merritt; 3 sisters: Jean M. (Hank) Hursey, Evelyn W. (Bill) Clements, Mary Annis W. Peterson; 2 brothers-in-law: Bobby McNeese and Randall Brown.

Mr. Merritt is survived by 4 sisters: Louise Brown and Connie McNeese of Douglas, Georgia, Phyllis Burch and husband Troy, of West Green, Georgia, LaDonna Foshee and husband Dr. Kenneth of Birmingham, Alabama; 2 sisters-in-law, Annie Merritt of Alma, Georgia, Pam Merritt of Burlington, Iowa; brother-in-law, Teddy Peterson, Sr. of Douglas, Georgia; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and great nephews; along with a number of extended family members.

Mr. Merritt’s funeral service was held on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at 3:00 PM in the Ricketson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Bounds officiating and LaDonna Foshee giving a eulogy.  Musical selections included “Jealous of the Angels” from the recorded music of Donna Taggert, “Beulah Land” from the recorded music of Squire Parsons, and “I’ll Fly Away” from the recorded music of Alan Jackson.  Interment followed at Broxton City Cemetery where military honors were presented by American Legion Post 515.

Active pallbearers will included Donnie Joe Ellis, Teddy Peterson, Jr., Roland McNeese, Jamie Merritt, Ricky Brown, and Tyler McNeese.
