On March 21, 2025, deputies were called to a residence near County Road 184 in Nicholls concerning an accident with injuries. When they arrived, they discovered that 40-year-old Carey Cooper from Nicholls appeared to have deliberately crashed his vehicle into another vehicle that had three passengers and several dogs inside.

Before the collision, there had been a disagreement between Cooper and one of the occupants of the other vehicle. While Cooper claimed he was only driving about 3-5 MPH when lost control of his vehicle, a quick investigation showed that he was actually driving much faster than he had reported, and evidence from tire tracks in the dirt indicated that Cooper had purposefully driven into the victims’ vehicle. Two of the injured individuals were taken to CRMC by ambulance, while Cooper was arrested and taken to the LEC, where he faces charges of aggravated assault.

Cooper remains in the Coffee County Jail.
