The CCA Patriots swept the Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles this week, winning the first game on Tuesday 14-4 in Vidalia. Thursday, the two teams met in a doubleheader in Douglas. CCA won both games by scores of 5-0 and 1-0.
Tuesday, starter Blake Bryant struck out 12, walked one, and gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits. Catcher Skyler Woods hit CCA’s second home run of the season, a solo shot in the first inning on the first pitch he saw. Jonathan Rutland was 3-3 with two walks, three runs scored, and five RBI. Thomas Gentry was also 3-3. He drove in two and scored three. Woods was 2-4 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.
Thursday, Rutland threw a 94-pitch, four-hit complete game shutout. Gavin McLean had two hits and two runs scored. Landon Williams drove in two.
Game two was a little different. Gentry and McLean combined for a no-hitter. The Patriots, meanwhile, didn’t fare much better. They managed just two hits – one from Bryant and another from Jonah Hall. CCA scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth when Bryant singled to score Tyson Crosby, who was pinch running for Woods.
The Patriots are 4-3-1 on the season and are action next against Pinewood Monday at home. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
