On Monday, March 17, 2025 at approximately 1:30 p.m., Jeff Davis Drug Unit officers were conducting surveillance on an apartment building located on the Alma Highway in Jeff Davis County.
During the surveillance, investigators observed a wanted fugitive with felony warrants get into a vehicle and leave the area. Investigators initiated a traffic stop; however, the vehicle failed to yield and kept traveling. The drug investigator sped up to pass the vehicle and got in front of it while the K9 deputy moved up to conduct a rolling stop on the vehicle. The SUV then came to a stop between both service units in the middle of the Alma Highway.
After an intense encounter with the occupants, law enforcement discovered the wanted fugitive in the passenger side of the vehicle. He was immediately arrested and all other occupants were removed and detained. While identifying all the passengers and their status, one of them, while detained, appeared to be attempting to discard something from his waist behind his back. When officers approached him, they found a quantity of methamphetamine clutched in his hands. Nothing else was found in the vehicle.
Donald Alvin Brown was arrested for his outstanding warrants of possession of methamphetamine and probation violation.
Jeremy Ryan Shumans was arrested for an outstanding warrant from Jesup, one outstanding probation warrant from Jeff Davis County, and possession of methamphetamine.
They both remain in custody at the Jeff Davis County Jail.
