A chase that began in the Oak Park area of Douglas went east into Nicholls then came back into Douglas before a deputy eventually PIT’ed the suspect on East Walker Street.
Thursday night, an officer attempted to stop a black Lexus ES350 in the Oak Park community. The officer saw the vehicle traveling without headlights after dark and attempted a traffic stop. Initially, the driver appeared to comply. However, a passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Moments later, the driver accelerated, leading deputies on a high-speed chase.
The driver headed out New Forest Highway to Sandhill Church Road. From there, the suspect went to Nicholls via Highway 32, made a lap around Nicholls, then came back to Douglas on 32. A Coffee County deputy was finally able to bring the chase to an end as the suspect turned left onto East Walker Street.
The deputy performed a PIT maneuver on the Lexus, sending it into the ditch on the north side of the roadway. The driver, whose identity has not been released, was unhurt but was transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center as a precaution. Once he is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Coffee County Jail on various charges related to the incident.
