Deputies from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office arrested of Michael Tyrone Jordan, a 36-year-old resident of Douglas, for multiple felony violations of Georgia’s sex offender registry statutes on April 29, 2025.

Officers from the Coffee County Sex Offender Unit who conducted a routine address verification at Jordan’s registered residence discovered that he had obtained employment which had not been disclosed to the sheriff’s office as mandated by state law. Investigators subsequently located Jordan working at an unregistered job site within the city limits of Douglas.

During the investigation, authorities determined that the job site was located within 1,000 feet of multiple churches. According to Georgia law, registered sex offenders are strictly prohibited from residing or working within 1,000 feet of areas where minors are likely to be present, including schools, playgrounds, and places of worship.

Jordan was located at a separate construction site and taken into custody without incident. Following his arrest, he was interviewed by law enforcement and admitted that he was aware of the legal requirement to register his place of employment. He also acknowledged that he had intentionally failed to do so, knowing the location’s proximity to churches violated state restrictions.

As a result of this investigation, Jordan is facing felony charges for failure to register as a sex offender and providing false information under O.C.G.A. 42-1-12(n), as well as violating employment restrictions placed on registered sex offenders under O.C.G.A. 42-1-15. Jordan faces one to thirty years per violation in prison. Jordan remains in custody at the Coffee County Jail.
