An illegal drug investigation that began in Atkinson County involving a Douglas man led to a second arrest and more charges in Coffee County.
A report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office states that on March 28, 2025, a detective in Atkinson County contacted Coffee County authorities and reported that Michael Dees, 56, of Mora had been arrested on possession of methamphetamine charges. During the initial investigation, the report says that Dees stated there was more methamphetamine at his residence in Mora.
Officers went to the home and spoke with Angel Michelle Howell, 53, of Willacoochee. The report says that Howell stated that she is in a relationship with Dees and pointed officers to a nearby pool table, which is where Dees kept the meth. Officers found more suspected methamphetamine inside a light bulb box near the pool table. There was also a digital scale near the meth, the report said. Officers also found a handgun nearby.
Howell and Dees were interviewed in separate locations. They both stated that the meth belonged to them. Howell also had active warrants for possession of methamphetamine. She was arrested and transported to the Coffee County Jail. In addition to the charges he faced in Atkinson County, Dees was booked into the Coffee County Jail on April 23 and charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He remains incarcerated.
