American Legion Post 515, in coordination with the Coffee County Commissioners and State Rep. Angie O’Steen, will host a Memorial Day program on Monday, May 26 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. It will be held in front of Williams Institutional Foods, located at 1325 Bowens Mill Road SW in Douglas, where State Route 206 will be dedicated as Veterans Perimeter Road.
At the ceremony, Legion members will remember and honor servicemen and servicewomen from all branches of the military, at home, all across the United States and around the world, especially the 87 military and first responders whose names appear on the monuments in front of the Coffee County Courthouse and POW/MIAs.
State Rep. Angie O’Steen will be the guest speaker. She will also dedicate State Route 206 and adjoining roads (Perimeter Road) in Coffee County as Veterans Perimeter Road to remember and honor all veterans for their service and sacrifice. Other state officials are expected to attend.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend. There will be tents, chairs and refreshments. The American Legion Post 515 encourages all elected city, county, and school officials, as well as business leaders, clergy, civic organizations, and other agencies, to attend. To RSVP, text Jerome Loving at 912-592-6413 by May 20. Please include your full name and number of guests accompanying you and Legion personnel will do their best to seat you together. The general public is not required to RSVP.
Members of American Legion Post 515 and community volunteers will place flags on over 3,000 veterans graves in and around Coffee County the week before, by Friday, May 23.
