Some things are harder to hide than others. $2 bills would probably fall into that category. And it was a few $2 that landed a 44-year-old woman in jail about a week ago.
According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, around 7:30 p.m. on May 3, 2025, a male subject went into the Alley Cat liquor store on South Madison Avenue. After making a purchase, he accidentally dropped his wallet. The wallet contained cash in $2 bills, Social Security card, debit card, and his driver’s license.
While the victim retraced his steps, a witness approached him and said that a woman named Brianna had picked up his wallet. The witness took the victim to Brianna’s house, the report says. They went to the house, located on Edgewood Avenue. A man answered the door and the victim asked to speak to Brianna. The man asked them to leave, the report says.
The victim reported the incident to police and an officer arrived. The officer went to the house and spoke with the male about Brianna. He let the officer in but no one was inside the home. However, the report says that it did appear as though a woman was living in the house.
The officer went back to the Alley Cat to look at video footage. The victim was at the Alley Cat waiting on the officer when he noticed a woman inside pay for items with $2 bills. He approached her, the report says, and she started running. The officer was able to catch up to the woman. When questioned, she would only say her name was Brianna.
The officer arrested the woman and took her to the Coffee County Jail where they discovered her name was Deoitre Denise Raymond Gibbes, 44, of Douglas. She was charged with resisting an officer and released on bond. The investigation into possible theft charges is ongoing.
