According to a press release from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, two individuals, a 23-year-old and a 15-year-old, were taken to Coffee Regional Medical Center on May 4, 2025, at around 2 a.m. with gunshot wounds. Initially, they claimed to be victims of a drive-by shooting but the investigation showed that they were allegedly the aggressors.
That night, deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office responded to Coffee Regional Medical Center after two individuals arrived with gunshot wounds. The individuals, later identified as Takevion Strozier, 23, and a 15-year-old juvenile, were initially believed to be victims of a drive-by shooting on Highway 221 North.
An incident report from the sheriff’s office states that Strozier reported that he and the 15-year-old were in Nicholls together earlier in the night. They then left when it started raining and they went to the Time Out Sports Bar parking lot. From there they were going to a friend’s house off Highway 221 North. According to the report, Strozier stated that they left Time Out between 1:35 and 1:50 a.m.
In the report, Strozier reported that he turned on Highway 221 North off of East Walker Street. On Highway 221, Strozier said he encountered a black SUV. As he attempted to pass the SUV, occupants in the vehicle began shooting at his vehicle. He said he turned around before he reached the Seventeen Mile River bridge and went to Douglas Pines Apartments. From there he and the 15-year-old were taken to CRMC.
The report states that the 15-year-old said that he had been asleep in the passenger seat when the shooting began. He said he woke up to the sound of gunfire and realized that he had been shot. According to the report, he blacked out and only regained consciousness when Strozier was helping him get into the hospital.
The report says that Strozier suffered a gunshot wound to his upper left arm. The bullet entered and exited his arm cleanly. The 15-year-old suffered gunshot wounds to both legs. A bullet also grazed his abdomen but didn’t do any serious damage, according to the report.
The report also says that Strozier denied being affiliated with any gangs, stating, “I ain’t fixing to get caught up in nobody else’s BS for some s%$* like this.” Officers went to Douglas Pines Apartments and looked at Strozier’s vehicle. They found seven visible gunshots on the passenger’s side of the vehicle.
The investigation, however, led officers to a conclusion that differed from the version Strozier and the 15-year-old told. Deputies and detectives conducted scene processing, multiple witness interviews, and forensic evidence analysis, which showed that Strozier and the juvenile were not victims but rather the primary aggressors in the incident. Evidence indicated that the two allegedly initiated gunfire during an altercation on the highway and the subjects in the other vehicle returned fire, hitting both Strozier and the juvenile.
Strozier was arrested and charged under O.C.G.A. 16-10-20 for making false statements and writings, a felony offense. He was also charged with tampering with evidence, in violation of O.C.G.A. 16-10-94. The 15-year-old juvenile was charged under O.C.G.A. 16-5-21 with three counts of aggravated assault, a felony, and under O.C.G.A. 16-11-132 for possession of a firearm by a person under 18 years of age.
