Anabeth Waters, a South Georgia State College senior from Waycross was honored with the 2025 Academic Recognition Day Award by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.

Anabeth graduated with a degree in SGSC’s Bachelor of Science in Elementary/Special Education at the end of the 2025 Spring Semester. She has been awarded the SGSC Sophomore Academic Achievement Award and the Senior Academic Achievement Award (4.0 GPA). She has also been on the President’s List during her time at SGSC and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

“My plans are to co-teach in a 4th grade inclusion class at Bacon County Elementary School in the fall,” she says. “I want to continue my education by beginning a master’s degree program in the fall also.”

“Anabeth has distinguished herself through her dedication to academic achievement,” said SGSC Interim President Dr. Greg Tanner. “Her drive, perseverance, and passion for learning have truly stood out to our faculty and staff. As she prepares to begin her teaching career this fall, we celebrate not only her accomplishments as a student but also the bright future she’s building. Congratulations to Anabeth on this well-earned honor.”

Academic Recognition Day is a celebration of Georgia students’ academic achievement. The honorees receive a resolution from the Georgia House of Representatives, along with a letter of commendation from USG Chancellor Sonny Perdue. Each student best represents the system’s highest scholastic ideals, as selected by their individual institutions. These students have a high GPA, strive for excellence, and have the ability to share knowledge in various areas of expertise.
