Zulema V. Gattis, age 78, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, GA. Ms. Gattis was born on February 23, 1947, the daughter of Mr. Stephen Velez and Mrs. Maria Velez.

Her survivors include: one daughter; Cheri (Robert Batten) Bennett of Douglas, GA, one grandson; Skyler Batten of Douglas, GA, one brother; Joe Edward (Kela) Velez of Arlington, TX, five sisters; Zita Carrasco of Odessa, TX, America Yanez of Rotan, TX, Argentina (Luther) Yanez of Rotan, TX, China Silvia of Kansas City, TX, and Carrolina (John) Tweedy of Emerald Isles, NC, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: husband; Jerry L. Gattis, father; Stephen Velez, mother; Maria Velez, three brothers; Richard Velez, Esteban Jr. Velez, and Madrid Velez, and two sisters; Maria Gaytan and Virginia Carr.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 25th, 2025, at Sims Funeral Home in Douglas, GA, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 26th, 2025, at Iron Road Holiness Church in Douglas, GA, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Jay Hersey and Rev. H.P. Murry officiating. Interment will follow at Meeks Cemetery in Nicholls, GA.

Active pallbearers will include: Al Thomas, Craig Hutcheson, Chuck Hutcheson, Timmy Riggins, and Jesse Harper.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
