The Douglas-Coffee County Economic Development Authority celebrates Governor Brian Kemp’s signing of Senate Bill 13 and Senate Bill 206 into law, marking a significant milestone for economic development opportunities in Coffee County and across Georgia.

“We are thrilled that Governor Kemp has signed these important pieces of legislation that will directly benefit our community and enhance our ability to attract new business investment,” said Matt Seale, CEO of the Douglas-Coffee County Economic Development Authority. “These bills represent a commitment to fostering economic growth and creating opportunities for our residents and businesses.”

Senate Bill 13 allows the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority to loan state funds for natural gas infrastructure improvements. This legislation is expected to give Georgia communities, like Douglas, the ability to increase its natural gas capacity and continue its industrial growth.

Senate Bill 206 forms the South Georgia Energy Authority, with member cities Douglas, Fitzgerald, Ocilla, Tifton and Ashburn. This Authority will work collaboratively to increase energy capacity in South Georgia.

The Douglas-Coffee County Economic Development Authority has been actively advocating for policies that support business growth and job creation in the region. Coffee County, strategically located in South Georgia with access to major transportation corridors, stands to benefit significantly from these new legislative tools.

“These bills provide us with additional resources and flexibility to compete for major economic development projects,” noted Stuart Smith, President of the Douglas-Coffee County Economic Development Authority Board. “We’re already in discussions with several prospects who have expressed increased interest in our community as a result of this favorable business climate.”

The legislation is expected to take effect on July 1, and the Douglas-Coffee County Economic Development Authority is prepared to begin immediately leveraging these new opportunities to benefit local businesses and attract new investment to the area.

Coffee County’s diverse economy, skilled workforce, and strategic location make it an attractive destination for businesses across multiple sectors, including manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, and technology.
