As it turns out, a fly swatter can deter more than just the pesky little insects it was designed to eliminate.

According to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, around 7 p.m. on May 15, 2025, deputies responded to an Estlee Mercer Road address in reference to a disorderly person call. The complainant stated that the suspect, Keith Mills, 48, of Douglas, entered the residence and started an argument. The complainant reported that Mills lunged at her, after which she hit him with a fly swatter. Mills then left the house.

Someone else who was in the house said he heard a commotion but did not see the incident take place.

Another deputy was patrolling the area and found Mills walking down the road. In the report, Mills admitted that he had gotten into an argument with the complainant. He said it was over his monthly check that comes in the mail. Mills said the complainant hit him with a fly swatter and he left the house.

Mills was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. He has since been released.
