A 31-year-old Douglas man remains in the Coffee County Jail after he was arrested on cocaine charges last month. According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, Lorenzo Jamal Wright of Douglas was arrested after he allegedly fled an DPD officer who attempted to stop Wright for riding a bicycle on the wrong side of the road.
The report states that at 2:45 a.m. on May 7, 2025, an officer saw Wright riding a bike on the wrong side of the road on Railroad Street at Fales Avenue. The officer hit his blue lights and, the report says, Wright turned around and fled. He then jumped off his bike and started running north across the railroad tracks. The report says the officer caught up with Wright at Eastside Baptist Church where he attempted to tase him. According to the report, the taser prongs didn’t make a good connection but Wright became tangled in the wires, causing him to fall.
Wright was taken into custody and placed in a patrol car. Other officers had arrived on the scene and they searched the area for contraband. Near the spot where Wright had been tased were a dollar bill and a lottery ticket with a white powdery substance on it. The officers notified drug investigators.
Wright was charged with possession of cocaine and a probation violation. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail where he remains.
