Rev. Alton C. Carver, age 93, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away Thursday morning, April 24, 2025, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia following a brief illness.
Rev. Carver was born August 29, 1931, in Coffee County, Georgia to the late Allen Carver and the late Maude Harrell Carver. He was a retired Primitive Baptist minister, and after retirement he actively attended Union Primitive Baptist Church.
Rev. Carver is survived by his wife, Brenda Joyce Tankersley Smith of Douglas, Georgia; 2 children: Shirley Jump and husband, David, of Douglas, Georgia, Donnie Carver and wife, Tammie, of Douglas, Georgia; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; a sister, Christine Jordon of Waycross, Georgia; along with several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Along with his parents, Rev. Carver was preceded in death by: his first wife, Irene Carver; a daughter, Wanda Carver Foskey; and a grandson, Scott Anderson.
A funeral service honoring Rev. Carver was held at 4:00 PM Sunday afternoon, April 27, 2025 in the chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home with Rev. Craig Jump and Rev. Phillip Smith officiating. Musical selections included: “I Surrender All”, rendered by vocalist, Aaron Ledford and keyboard, Matthew Ledford. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery where a musical selection of “Great Speckled Bird” was rendered by Rev. Phillip Smith, vocalist and playing guitar, along with Daniel Smith, Marty Moore, and J.R. Butts, all playing guitar.
Active pallbearers were: Chance Carver, Matthew Ledford, Aaron Ledford, Tomas Odums, David Jump, and Gabe Jump.
