Jon Worrell, 57, who is being held in the Coffee County Jail on murder charges in connection with the 2006 shooting death of his wife, Doris Worrell, will have a bond hearing later this month. Earlier this week, Worrell’s attorneys filed a motion requesting a bond.
Worrell has been in the Coffee County Jail since May 22, 2025. He was arrested in Maryville, Missouri, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, and charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, and conspiracy to commit murder.
The motion states that, despite moving to Fernandina Beach, Fla.; Costa Rica; British Columbia; Kansas; and Missouri, since his wife’s death, he is not a flight risk. The motion also says that Worrell’s strong ties to the Coffee County community will keep him here until his trial. Likewise, the motion says that Worrell has no history of not appearing in court when required and he is amenable to electronic monitoring “and any other measures this Court wishes to impose to ensure Mr. Worrell’s appearance when summonsed.”
The motion also outlines Worrell’s movements and places of residence following Doris’s death. In 14 of the document’s 19 pages, Worrell’s attorneys explain, through legal precedent, why they believe that he should be granted bond. The bond hearing will be held on June 26.
Worrell is represented by J. Travis Griffin and P. Mackenzie Miller of the Hogue Griffin firm of Macon.
The motion can be seen in its entirety below.
