On May 29, 2025 at around 5 p.m., officers from the Douglas Police Department responded to an accident in the parking lot of a local business. The accident investigation led to the discovery of an individual who had allegedly fled offers the previous night.

A report from the police department states that while investigating the accident, an officer identified the driver of one of the vehicles as Thomas Yocum, 25, of Douglas. In a briefing earlier in the day, Yocum had been mentioned as someone who had fled on a bicycle from officers the previous night.

Yocum was arrested and charged with fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, no tag, no insurance, and no headlights half hour before sunrise. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail and later released.
