Tuesday evening, officers investigated a traffic accident on West Walker Street that sent one motorist to Coffee Regional Medical Center. Initially, the accident was reported at the scene to be a hit and run involving two vehicles but officers have determined that it was most likely a one-vehicle accident.

According to witnesses, an individual whose identity has not been released was driving a Honda SUV on Touchton Drive. At the stop sign at West Walker Street, the driver turned left to go to Town and Country Mobile Home Park. Shortly after making the turn, the Honda left the roadway on the north side of West Walker and rolled over on its side.

At the scene, witnesses reported that a black car traveling east on West Walker struck the Honda and fled the scene without stopping. However, witnesses couldn’t provide a detailed description of the car. Officers from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and troopers from the Georgia State Patrol investigated the accident and did not see damage on the Honda that would have been consistent with a collision with another vehicle.

The driver of the Honda was transported to CRMC for treatment for injuries sustained in the accident. The crash remains under investigation. While officers are investigating all leads, the accident is currently being treated as a single-vehicle crash.
