On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the City of Douglas made a land donation around North Madison Avenue Park to the Douglas-Coffee County Land Bank Authority to help fill local housing needs for victims of Hurricane Helene and to support workforce housing. On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the Douglas-Coffee County Land Bank Authority officially deeded the donated property to The Hope Initiative at a closing, which was held at Mr. Jerome Adams’s law office.

Through the land donation, the City and Land Bank aim to assist residents who suffered a total home loss or those who were displaced as a result of the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene.

“It’s a wonderful step towards healing and rebuilding our community, showcasing the spirit of collaboration and compassion that drives us forward,” said Mayor Tony Paulk. “We support our local Hope for Coffee and The Hope Initiative of Mayfield, KY. Together, we can create a brighter future for all!”

The Hope Initiative plans to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed eight homes to be constructed on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM.
