Mr. Billy Ray Vickers, age 92, of Ambrose, Georgia, passed away Wednesday night, June 25, 2025, at Vista Park Health and Rehabilitation following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Vickers was born September 9, 1932, in Ambrose, Georgia to the late Roscoe Vickers and the late Julia Paulk Vickers (Durden).  He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served for 4 years.  Following his military service he returned home to become a farmer and to serve as Mayor of the City of Ambrose for more than 20 years.  He was a member of Douglas Church of Christ.

Mr. Vickers is survived by his loving wife, Mary Nell Reich Vickers of Ambrose, Georgia; 2 sons: Cary Ray Vickers and Roger Keith Vickers; along with a number of extended family members.

Along with his parents, Mr. Vickers was preceded in death by his step-father, Ed Durden, and a sister, Gloria Durden Davis.

A graveside funeral service and interment will be held to honor Mr. Vickers on Friday morning, June 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM at New Hope Cemetery in Ambrose, Georgia with Rev. Larry Searcy officiating.

In keeping with Mr. Vickers wishes, his family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial gifts be made to Douglas Church of Christ 1001 North Gaskin Avenue Douglas, Georgia 31533.

Condolences, kind words and fond memories may be left for Mr. Vickers’ family at www.ricketsonfuneralhome.com.

Mr. Vickers’ arrangements have been entrusted to the kind and compassionate staff of Ricketson Funeral Home, Inc. of Douglas, Georgia.
