A Douglas woman who had active warrants was arrested after officers arrived at an East Jackson Street address to investigate a domestic dispute.

Just before 7 p.m. on June 9, 2025, Douglas police officers responded to the domestic call. According to a report from the police department, when they arrived, Janice Denise Williams, 55, of Douglas, stated that her husband had hit her during an argument. The report noted that Williams did not have any visible marks. During the incident, Williams allegedly threw a glass that hit an individual who was trying to break up the fight, causing a cut above her eyebrow.

Others at the scene stated that Williams threw the glass and that it struck the other person.

During the investigation, officers learned that Williams had active warrants through the sheriff’s office. When officers went to arrest her, the report says she resisted and wouldn’t comply. According to the report, an officer got her left hand in handcuffs but she was holding her phone in her right hand. The report says that she ignored three commands to put the phone down. After the third command, an officer took her phone and she started pulling away, the report says. The officer pushed her against a wall and another officer placed her right hand in handcuffs.

She was arrested and charged with battery (family violence) and a probation violation for forgery, and she was booked into the Coffee County Jail.
