Sheriff’s office: Two-week operation a success, results in multiple arrests

According to a press release from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, drug agents made multiple arrests in a successful two-week operation targeting illegal drug activity across Coffee County. This effort, made possible through the collaboration of the City of Douglas Police Department, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Unit, continues to demonstrate effective results in combating the presence and distribution of illegal narcotics in the community.

From June 18 to July 1, 2025, the joint operation led to the apprehension of the following individuals:

Benjie Nelm Swain was arrested on June 18, 2025, following a traffic stop on Old Axson Road. Swain was charged with Possession of Drug Related Objects and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Michael Shannon Deaton was encountered walking in the roadway on June 19, 2025. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Lee Demita Barfield was arrested on June 19, 2025, at the Comfortel Inn and Suites. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.

George William Butler was arrested on June 19, 2025, following an incident at the Econolodge. Butler was charged with Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance (morphine) and Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance (two counts).

Timothy Neal Williams Jr. was arrested on June 20, 2025, after a traffic stop on Fleetwood Circle. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (hydrocodone).

Laprince Shamon Brockington was arrested on June 21, 2025. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine).

Qmetee McKenzie was arrested on June 27, 2025, after a lengthy drug investigation at the Comfortel Inn and Suites. McKenzie was charged with Possession of Crack Cocaine and Possession of Methamphetamine.

Milton Gainey was apprehended on July 1, 2025, as part of the same investigation. He was charged with Sale of a Controlled Substance.

This operation reflects the continued commitment of local law enforcement to combat illegal narcotics and ensure the safety and well-being of Coffee County residents. The Douglas Coffee Drug Unit, along with all assisting agencies, remains vigilant in targeting the distribution and possession of illegal substances throughout the community.
