A jaywalking investigation resulted in a short jail stay for 44-year-old Lee Demita Barfield of Douglas.

According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, around 7 p.m. on June 18, 2025, a DPD officer saw Barfield jaywalking on North Peterson Avenue in the area of the Comfortel motel. The report states that the officer had stopped Barfield before and knew he had a drug problem.

When the officer asked him if he had any drugs on his person, the report says that Barfield began pulling out his pockets as he walked to the front of the patrol car. He put his hands on the grill of the car and the officer continued the search, according to the report. The officer found suspected methamphetamine in Barfield’s sock and placed him under arrest.

Barfield was charged with possession of methamphetamine and taken to the Coffee County Jail. He was later released.
