Dr. Walter “Gary” Huckaby went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday July 13, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Gary was born in Douglas, Georgia on December 28, 1953, to Walter Cecil Huckaby and Nell Steptoe Smith. He graduated from Coffee County High School in 1973 and earned a degree in Biology at Valdosta State College in June 1975. Gary went on to study at the Medical College of Georgia before obtaining his Pharmacy degree at the University of Georgia in 1980 and a Pharmacy Doctorate degree in 2002. He worked at St. Mary’s Hospital Pharmacy for 40 years as the Clinical Director of Pharmacy before his retirement in 2024.

Gary, known as “Bee” to his fellow golfers, was an avid golfer. Playing golf as often as possible at his home in Watkinsville, Ga at Jennings Mill Country Club and traveling to play courses across the country from Hilton Head, S.C., to Pebble Beach, California. He also enjoyed snow skiing and skied annually for many years in Colorado.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Walter C. Huckaby (2023) and his brother Victor Huckaby (1999). He is survived by his wife, Debbie Huckaby, and two sons, Walter “Gary” Huckaby II (Lauren) and Benjamin Andrew “Andy” Huckaby (Kimberly), five grandchildren; Kylie, Gunner, Garrett, Gray and Beau and his mother, Nell Smith.

Visitation will be held at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, WEST on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. A private interment will be at Oconee Memorial Park.
