The Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) is proud to announce the members of its 2025 Youth Advisory Council.
The GSBA Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is a student leadership program that brings together high school students from across Georgia to elevate student voice in public education governance and decision-making. Designed to reflect the diversity and perspectives of students statewide, the Council provides a platform for young leaders to share insights directly with education stakeholders.
This year, GSBA received 163 applications from outstanding students across the state. After a competitive selection process, nine students were chosen to serve on the 2025 Council. These students demonstrated exceptional leadership potential, strong communication skills, and a clear passion for public education.
Throughout the school year, Council members will participate in virtual meetings and collaborative discussions designed to explore key issues facing Georgia’s public schools. Topics include essential elements of public education—such as student mental health and wellness, school climate, civic engagement, and leadership development—as well as emerging concerns identified by students themselves. Their feedback and recommendations will help inform GSBA programs and bring meaningful student perspectives to education leaders and local boards across the state.
“At GSBA, we believe the best education policy is shaped when students are part of the conversation,” said Valarie Wilson, Executive Director of GSBA. “The Youth Advisory Council is about more than dialogue—it’s about developing the next generation of leaders. These young people bring valuable insights, and we are proud to provide a space where their voices are not only heard, but truly make an impact on public education in Georgia.”
