The Coffee Lady Trojans are off and runningĀ under first-year head coach (and Coffee High alumna) Katy Lott. A week into the season, the Lady Trojans are 1-1 with a win over Bacon County (9-2) in the preseason scrimmage and Ware County (11-3) in the season opener. Their loss came when Lanier County defeated Coffee 5-3 in extra innings yesterday.
Against Bacon, Ella Edge had four hits and two RBI. Ella Winters had two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored. Maggie Brown threw a complete game for the win.
The Lady Trojans defeated the Lady Gators on Wednesday in five innings. Edge, Winters, and Kanley Douglas each had two hits. Karlee Thomas scored three times. Three Coffee pitchers saw action with Brown starting. She went three innings for her second win of the season.
Thursday, the Lady Trojans jumped out to a 3-0 lead after scoring two in the second and one in the third. Lanier bounced back and tied the score with two in the sixth and one in the seventh, forcing extra innings. In the eighth, Coffee retired the first two batters then Lanier answered with back-to-back home runs to pull ahead 5-3. In the bottom of the inning with one out, Edge doubled then Douglas followed with a single. The Lady Trojans had runners on first and third but were unable to score.
Brown stepped into the circle again and went the distance, throwing 149 pitches (103 of which were strikes). She surrendered five runs (all earned) on seven hits. She struck out 17 and walked just two.
