On July 24, 2025, an individual driving a Camaro allegedly led deputies on a chase with speeds approaching 90 mph in an attempt to avoid arrest and potential prison time.
It didn’t work.
According to an incident report from the sheriff’s office, around 10 p.m. on July 24, a deputy noticed a Chevrolet Camaro driving faster than normal on Highway 32 West near Warren Carter Road. The officer turned around and got behind the Camaro. The report says the officer saw an individual in the car throw a bag out of the window.
The Camaro refused to stop and led the officer on a chase through several county roads. The car turned into the yard at 28 Sandy Circle, struck a pole that was laying down in the yard, then went back out into Sandy Circle to Vine Road. Eventually, the Camaro pulled into 250 Vine Road and drove off a high embankment. Upon landing, the vehicle was inoperable and the chase ended.
The driver, identified as Raul Avias Sendejas, 34, of Douglas, resisted arrest, the report states. Officers finally got him under control and into a patrol car. A passenger in the vehicle, Jessica Washburn, exited the vehicle as well. The report says that she complied with officers. There was a strong smell of alcohol in the car. Officers also found one open container and a large amount of unopened alcoholic beverages inside.
Washburn is on state probation and has a curfew of 7 p.m. However, she was not charged in the incident and left the scene on foot.
The report says that Sendejas was intoxicated and fled from officers because had been out of prison about three weeks and didn’t want to go back. Sendejas was charged with several traffic violations as well as DUI, driving with a suspended license, and fleeing/attempting to elude officers. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail.
