The CCA Lady Patriots easily dispatched the Fullington Academy Lady Patriots in a doubleheader Thursday afternoon in Douglas, winning game one 9-1 in six innings and game two 18-0 in three innings. Gracie Giddens was a perfect 6-6 with four runs and five RBI. She also pitched game two, throwing a complete game shutout that took just 36 pitches to finish.
In game one, the Lady Patriots trailed 1-0 after 1 ½ innings. That changed for good in the bottom of the second when they scored two. CCA went on to plate three in the fourth, two in the fifth, and two in the sixth to win 9-1 via run rule. Cadence Cravey and Brilynn Waldron each had a pair of hits. Abrah Harris scored twice. Klair Mercer, Cravey, and Giddens drove in two.
Peighton Harper handled the pitching duties, striking out seven and walking just one. She gave up one unearned run on four hits.
The Lady Patriots took a different strategy in game two. Instead of steadily scoring throughout the game, they unleashed most of their offense in the second inning, scoring 15 runs. Giddens doubled, scoring two runs. Peighton Harper singled, driving in one run. Brilynn Waldron singled in two as well. The following Lady Patriots also had RBI hits with the number of runs they drove in included in parentheses: Emma Gourley (one), Mattie Lewis (two), Mercer (one), Harris (one), then three errors plated four runs, and Waldron (sacrifice fly, one). In the third, Giddens, Gourley, and Reese Coram each drove in runs to give the Lady Patriots an 18-0 advantage and the win.
Gourley had three hits. Bleu Carter scored three times after she came in for Harris. Before leaving the game, Harris scored twice, bringing the total number of runs scored by the #5 spot in the lineup to five.
Giddens gave up one hit and struck out one.
CCA is 6-3 on the season and has the weekend off before returning to action Monday in Vidalia against Vidalia Heritage Academy. Tuesday, the Lady Patriots return home to face Twiggs Academy at 4 p.m.
