The South Georgia State College soccer team kicked off its 2025-26 season in dominant fashion, securing a 4-0 conference road victory over Georgia Military College to start with 1-0 overall (1-0 in conference play).

Freshman defender/midfielder Addison Miller made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, scoring three goals to record the team’s first game-winning goal of the season. All three of Miller’s goals came from set pieces, which included two corners and a penalty kick. Nandi Carpenter also added to the scoring tally with a goal of her own, giving SGSC a decisive edge.

Outside midfielder Maria Cifuentes set up the attack to Carpenter with a well-placed cross, demonstrating the team’s strong passing game and offensive depth.

Goalkeeper Jessica Joiner commanded the back line with authority, collecting 12 saves on her way to a full-match shutout. Her steady presence helped the Lady Hawks build early momentum in conference play.

The back line, anchored by Brooke Brantley, Addison Miller, and Roselyn Williams, limited their opponent to just two total shots on goal.

Head coach Lisa Lytle praised the balance between offense and defense in the win, “It was a great start to conference play and pleased with the result, however we still have improvements that need to be made. We are proud of this group of athletes, the hard work and time they have been putting in and can’t wait to see it pay off one game at a time.”

The Lady Hawks will travel to Andrew College for their next matchup on Friday, August 29 at 2 pm, aiming to carry their early momentum into the rest of the season.
