A 1 a.m. welfare check at a local RV park ended with a 38-year-old in jail on a variety of charges, including simple assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
On August 14, 2025, a deputy responded to a Dreamland RV Park after a complainant reported that Paul Speakman Jr., 38, of Douglas, and a female had gotten into an argument. According to the complainant, Speakman allegedly threatened to shoot the victim.
The officer spoke with the victim who appeared to be scared or panicked, the report says. The victim stated that she and Speakman had been arguing. He had picked up a rifle and threatened to shoot her, the report says. Speakman also allegedly hit the victim in the head several times, punched a wall, broke her sunglasses, and threatened to pour boiling water on her.
The officer spoke with Speakman who admitted to arguing with the victim. He said the incident was verbal and her sunglasses were already broken. He also said that the hole in the wall was already there, the report says. The officer found a Winchester .22 rifle in Speakman’s vehicle, though he denied it was his.
Based on the investigation at the scene, Speakman was arrested and charged with criminal trespass – family violence, terroristic threats and acts, simple assault – family violence, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He remains in the Coffee County Jail.
