The Coffee Lady Trojans split a doubleheader against the Houston County Bears Thursday afternoon on the road. Coffee is now 7-4 on the season and 3-3 in region play.

Pitcher Maggie Brown has already had several solid performances this year. On Thursday, she did it both in the circle and at the plate in game one . She threw a three-hit complete game shutout against Houston, striking out five with no walks. Brown also drove in the game’s only run when she singled to right in the fourth inning, scoring Allie Pridgen. Coffee won 1-0.

In game two, the Lady Trojans scattered eight hits but could only muster one run – and that came in the first inning. Jocelyn Fender led off the game with a walk then scored on a two-out double from Ella Edge.

Kanlee Douglas started for Coffee and didn’t have a bad outing. She went the distance, giving up four runs (two earned) while striking out two and walking two.

The Lady Trojans open the month of September with a respite from region competition. They have three straight away games – September 2 at Brantley, September 3 at Telfair, and September 4 at Pierce. They return to the regio schedule on September 9 with a 6 p.m. home game against Thomas County Central.
