Ms. Melissa Jean Lloyd Bennett, age 56, of Douglas, Georgia passed away Thursday afternoon at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, following a recent illness. 

Melissa was born September 22, 1968 in Ft. Pierce, Florida to the late Austin James Lloyd, Jr. and the late Margaret Faye Herring.  She will long be remembered as a loving mother, a wonderful cook, and a talented artist.  She also found great joy in deer hunting and motorcycle riding.  She was of the Baptist faith.

Melissa leaves behind her 3 children: Gage Lloyd Bennett, Athan Hall Bennett, and Margaret Jean Bennett, all of Clyde, Ohio; 1 step son: Mark Harrison Bennett of Springfield, Missouri; 3 grandchildren: Luna Ranger-Denton Smith, Maizey Ruthanna Kern, and Wyatt Gabriel-George Smith, all of Clyde, Ohio; 3 siblings: Melinda Joyce (Larry) Lloyd of Blairsville, Georgia, Austin James Lloyd, III, of Nicholls, Georgia, Melonie Jane (James) Ricketson; along with a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A graveside funeral service and interment will be held for Melissa on Sunday afternoon, August 31, 2025 at Roxie Mae Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Mock officiating. 

Condolences, kind words and fond memories may be shared with Melissa’s family at www.ricketsonfuneralhome.com.

Melissa’s arrangements have been entrusted to the kind and compassionate staff of Ricketson Funeral Home, Inc. of Douglas, Georgia.
